We communicated that President Mohlabeng was looking forward to attending the disciplinary hearing scheduled for March 11, 2024, at 10:00. We also mentioned that he has done his due diligence, and would treat the hearing with the seriousness that it deserves, although we do not believe that SAFA at the national level has the authority to discipline an official who is not one of theirs.
President Mohlabeng is not an officer of SAFA. not even through any of its standing committees. So within what provisions are they hauling him into their disciplinary process? Be that as it may, he dedicated himself to comply nonetheless and challenge this principle from within the process.
As expected, he requested documentation from the accuser to prepare for the hearing. This was last week.
Today, the president woke up bright and early, eager to argue his case at the hearing. He arrived at the venue; it was a house to let. There was no sign of any DC officials at the hearing. He then received a letter from one of the assistants at SAFA House to inform him that the hearing had been postponed – again.
It sounds familiar; wasn’t this the same thing that happened in September last year? At least then, it was not a house to let. We are just saying that if they received his request on Friday, the 8th, wasn’t it proper for them to postpone the hearing on Friday already? What good reason do they have not to postpone on Friday and to postpone on the day?
Here is the letter.
Nonetheless, life goes on. President Mohlabeng will focus on his work as the SAFA Tshwane president. SAFA Tshwane has an upcoming congress on March 16, 2024. This will be his primary focus for now.
We appeal to all of President Mohlabeng’s supporters to support him during this turbulent time and help him ensure stability in SAFA Tshwane. Football in SAFA Tshwane must still win regardless of the judicial, legal, and political tiki-taka. To all those who have shown support for him already, we thank you. Your continued support is highly appreciated. Remember, the President is working for you, for your LFA, for Tshwane, and ultimately for South African football. Together, we can bring football back into the hands of the people.
We acknowledge the work done by the former SAFA Tshwane President, Willie Mooka, in reporting criminal cases against SAFA and also against the SAFA President. We have seen the news doing the rounds about the raid at SAFA House that took approximately 5 hours and seized equipment for forensic investigations. This is not witch-hunting in our view, but it is a justice drive. Money taken from SAFA for personal gain is money taken from the people of South Africa. We are not saying, even for one moment that we know for sure that the things he is being investigated for are true, but we support a criminal justice process to bring the truth to light at the end of the day.
